Cricket Club

FAIRFORD CRICKET CLUB is one of the oldest in the county having been formed during the 1800′s. The club fields two adult teams every Saturday and a Sunday friendly XI. The Saturday teams compete in the Gloucestershire County Cricket League but for those who enjoy 20/20 cricket, the club also enters a team in the Cotswold District Cricket Association Midweek League. During the season, practice nights are on Tuesdays (for adults and teenagers aged 14 and older) when players can utilize the bowling machine, mobile nets and artificial wicket.
There is a developing junior section whose members are coached every Friday evening during the summer. Under-9, Under-11 and Under-13 teams play in the Cotswold District Junior Cricket Leagues on Sunday mornings (Under-9s and Under-11s) and Thursday evenings (Under-13s) and we have a side playing in the Under-11 cup competition too. We will also be inaugural members of the Cotswold District Girls’ League in 2012. There are plenty of opportunities for teenagers to play for the adult teams on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Junior coaching takes place from 20th April to 10th August, starting at 6.30pm and finishing at 8.00pm.
The pavilion boasts a well-stocked bar with beer and spirits all reasonably priced and there are a number of events such as barbecues, quizzes, golf days, ten-pin bowling nights and the presentation night where the season’s high-flyers receive their trophies. The club also organizes six-a-side tournaments throughout the summer for players of various ages, backgrounds and abilities with competitions for sides from local pubs, juniors and women.
Indoor nets take place in the Fairford Leisure Centre throughout February and March for juniors and adults.
The club has achieved Clubmark Accreditation which proves we have met the benchmark for high quality community cricket set down by our governing body the ECB (England & Wales Cricket Board). We have school partnerships with Fairford, Hatherop and Southrop C. of E. Primary Schools where we provide coaching through the Charitable Foundation’s Chance to Shine Scheme, designed to bring cricket back into state schools.
The club has an open and equitable policy and encourage people to join us and take advantage of our excellent facilities and strong social membership. If you are interested in becoming a member of any description please do not hesitate to contact us as we would love to see you. Adults interested in playing can call in at the club during Tuesday night practice or phone Kevin Smart on (07941) 724138 or e-mail ksmart@aol.com
Directions: The club is located at Park Street which is reached by turning off the A417, driving up the High Street (passing the Bull Hotel and the church on your left) and then turning right at the T-junction. The ground is about 400 yards along on the left.
